GUIDELINES

Open to: Musicians ages 8 - 18 who are either Newton residents or students of Newton string teachers.
Competition Categories Ages 8–9; 10-11, 12-13,14-15,16-18
Applicant will be placed in an age category as of November 1, 2012.
  • Participants must prepare a concert piece or two, written for a string instrument with piano, or unaccompanied.
  • No movement of a concerto or sonata will be accepted.
  • The duration of the repertoire must not exceed 10 minutes for the participants younger than 15 years old, and be not longer than 15 minutes for the age 16-18 category.
  • Participants can either provide their own accompanist or use the Competition's accompanist. If an accompanist is needed, music needs to be submitted with the application. Accompanist Fee is $80 which includes a one hour rehearsal and the performance.
Winners: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners and one Honorable Mention in each category.

All of these winners will play in the Gala Concert on Saturday, December 8. All decisions of judges are final.
Judges: Faculty members from New England and Boston area educational institutions.
Prizes: Cash prizes for 1st place winners. All other winners will receive gift certificates to Boston area instrument shops and Award Certificates
Registration Fee: $75.00
